Royal Palms braces left on to long

Just like leaving ropes or stakes on to long on plants. The pictures here shows the damage leaving those braces you see holding palms in place. There is a study out that say's most tree and palms can go with out such ropes, stakes or braces? Interesting.

Why we continue to leave these on??

     I know that it's a good thing to use some sort of staking method. But we have to take them off. Most of the time stakes can be taken off with in a month or two. Push on the trunk to see it the root ball is stable. If there is a lot of movement leave it staked, if it moves just a couple inches than take the stakes off. The tree will be most appreciated.
